Gässli Film Festival
The «Gässli Film Festival» is a Swiss short film festival with an international flair. As a non-profit event in the Basel region, the festival conveys cinematic fascination and insights into filmmaking. Each year, the festival presents a unique opportunity for designers to participate in a contest to shape its visual identity. For the 12th edition in 2020, we were honored to emerge victorious in this competition. The challenge was to create a keyvisual using only black and white typography. Seeing this limitation as a spark for creativity, we began an exciting journey of exploration and experimentation. We developed the key visual of the festival by exploring different fonts on 16mm blank film. With precision, we utilized a cutting plotter to apply typography to the blank film, then added color with felt-tip pens. As we removed the attached letters, a compelling negative form emerged, creating a visually impactful result.

GÄSSLI FILM FESTIVAL
The Gässli Film Festival is a Swiss short film festival with an international flair. As a non-profit event in Basel, the festival conveys cinematic fascination and insights into filmmaking. The complete design implementation for the 12th Gässli Film Festival 2020 involved creating the key visual of the festival through experimentation with typeset fonts on 16mm blank film. Using a cutting plotter, we applied the typography to the film and colored it with felt-tip pens. By peeling off the adhered letters, a negative form was created.
